Refillary

Adrienne Grolbert, the founder of Refillary in Parker, Colorado, started with an idea to reduce waste and set out to create something that positively impacts the environment and Parker. Operating for just over a year and a half, Refillary focuses on reducing single-use plastics by encouraging customers to bring in their own containers to refill with household essentials such as laundry detergent, dish soap, and shampoo. Adrienne’s mission is simple but powerful: “If all 330 million people in this country just refilled one container, then that's 330 million pieces of trash that didn't end up in a landfill. You don't have to be perfect. If all you can do is refill your hand soap or refill one thing of dish soap, that's a difference. You made a difference in our local landfills.”

Beyond the act of refilling, Refillary works hard to make a difference in the community, “I want to make this store something that is accessible to everybody of all price points. And I try and make sure that the prices are as low as I can get them based on how I can source product.” Refillary seems to reflect Parker and the surrounding communities, “I'm finding this fusion between people who are politically interested in the environment and then people who are more farm-focused. I think both of them care about the planet and just come from different places, and I want to be that place where they can come together and say, "I care, and I want less plastic in my environment. I want less plastic going into my animals or into my landfills or into my water.””

Refillary also features local businesses, artists, entrepreneurs, and programs. The shop hosts foster cats available for adoption, events such as craft nights and meditation practices, and works hard to buy local products. “We only stock American-made products, so everything in here's manufactured in the United States, and I try and make sure that it's local when I can. And I make sure that all the ingredients are clean, so they are non-carcinogenic and not bad for the environment.”

Refillary has become more than just a shop—it’s a gathering place for Parker’s residents who want to contribute to a healthier planet. With a deep commitment to the environment and a supportive community behind it, Refillary has already made an impact on Parker, and is being lifted up by the community in turn, “Parker has this strong sense of community. They support the businesses that they really care about.”
